Birthday Fun

Hello stampers!!

Last week was my first born’s 11th birthday. I whipped up this card for him.

I realized that trying to make cards for 11 year old boys is not so easy.

It’s already hard enough to do masculine cards.

Throw in kids who want to be older and cool and it’s darn near impossible.

I did a lot of normal ink to paper stamping on this card! I embossed everything except the green balloon.

I used Wild Wasabi, Brilliant Blue (craft ink), and Real Red (craft ink) from SU!

I used Birthday Whimsy for my images (SU!).

I used Vintage Sepia from Versafine and Jet Black Stazon.

The paper is BoBunny from the Calpso and Double Dot collections.

I drew the balloon strings with my Multiliner.

Enjoy!

Beate’s Weekend Sketch Challenge #105

Beate revealed a fabulous Weekend Sketch Challenge (#105) today and I just had to do it immediately! I have a couple of other cards I want to make with this sketch too!

I used BoBunny ‘Tis the Season and St. Nick designer paper for this card.  I just love this St. Nick line. It’s so traditional and the epitome of “Christmas”. I also used Bazzill Emerald City Bling for the layering. The bling is from Close to My Heart. The image and ribbon is from Stampin’ Up!.

If you play along with Beate’s challenge this week, be sure to let me know so I can visit you!

I’m going to participate in Sarabeth’s Happy Halloween Blog Hop above. If you’d like to check it out too, please click through the image above!!

Today, I made a card for Beate’s Weekend Sketch Challenge (WSC102).

I was able to use a retired River Rock long note card for the base of this card. I really miss that color!

I did something I never do…embossing! I embossed the skull image! This stamp image just screams for embossing. However, as soon as I’m finished with this post, I’m off to email my friend Donna for some embossing advice. She can emboss like no one I’ve ever seen. I must find out the secrets!!!

This is the inside!  I love this card!!!

It’s Another Digi Card!

I’m excited to announce that I will be attending the Copic Certification class in San Antonio in December! Isn’t that cool? Will anyone else be attending?

I still have a massive stash of stuff to work with but my little girl was sick from Thursday to Saturday and still coughing. You know, the fun stuff? Anyway, I haven’t done much of anything except listen to the audiobook version of The Host. Anyone read that? I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read it! It is an awesome book!

Tonight, I sat down and worked with My Digital Studio (SU!) to make a Halloween card using this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch (108).

Christmas in October?

So you probably think I’m going to share a cute little Christmas project, huh? No, not today… Instead, I feel like I’m having Christmas in October!! I’ve gotten a whole bunch of new stuff lately and I’m crazy excited to start using it! Here’s a short list:

  • New Greeting Farm stamps (my first set!)
  • New prezzies from Donna in Australia!!
  • Gift images from various friends
  • New stamps and paper from SU!
  • The new digital software from SU!

I’m very excited about the new digital software program from SU! I installed it last night and today I tried my hand at it! Let me tell you, stampers…this thing is nice. You don’t have to have their software to download digital packages, but it is certainly more convenient. You get a ton of stuff for the money. I thought you only got the software, but that is not correct.

I had no idea where to begin with this software. The nice part is there are pre-loaded templates that you can use. But I wanted to really take this baby out for a spin! So, instead, I printed off this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch 107 and decided to go to work. This is what I made! Everything you see here, comes standard with the software. Pretty sweet, huh?

And this is the inside of the card! It’s a standard A2 size landscape card. You can even get them professionally printed! I’m going to do that so I can see how it looks professionally printed!

Up next, I’m going to try Jen’s Wild Flower Kids digi images, Autumn Splendor with this program! Yes! You can do that too!!

Product Review: Rubber Scissors

Someone (and I can’t remember who!) told me I should buy a pair of Tim Holtz scissors to cut my rubber stamps. I wondered how these scissors compare to the ones I have from Stampin’ Up! since the SU! ones are the only ones I’ve used.

I’ve always been very pleased with Stampin’ Up! products and recognize that they have been the industry leader for a long time. But stampers, times are changing. Other companies are starting to bring some good competition and it’s exciting!!

So, I thought I’d give these Tim Holtz scissors a shot and see how they compare.

I have to say, the very first thing I noticed was the plastic case for the Tim Holtz scissors blades.

I love having these little cases! My paper snips (SU!) have a case and I love the added protection it has. The blades are protected and so is my skin!!!

I also noticed pretty quickly that part of the handles are “squishy”. This is the “Kushgrip” part.

Kushgrip is a soft, tactile, rubber like material which molds over the scissors to provide a comfortable, non-slip grip.  The benefit of Kushgrip is evident after cutting a lot of rubber! I admit that more than once, I’ve gotten injured after cutting a lot of rubber. I’m excited to see if these handles will be easier on my hands.

I used the Tim Holtz Kushgrips to cut some rubber that I am mounting.  Because the mounting didn’t come with the rubber, it is really messy when you start cutting. I knew this would be the worst possible situation to try out the scissors. So I did.

I loved them!!! Who knew?? OME, there was a huge difference in the two pairs of scissors! What is the difference? The blades!

The SU! scissors have smooth blades as pictured above. Whereas the TH Kushgrips are serrated!!

Be sure so enlarge each picture so you can see the difference.

The little teeth on these scissors make the biggest difference! I encourage you to buy a pair of your own today!

So many exciting things happening my friends!! Be sure to check out the shop and see all the new stuff being added! You can pre-order the new Spellbinders Nestabilities now! They’ll ship as soon as I get them.

Today, I’m sharing a card I made for Bestie Beth. When I first saw this paper, I knew it was made for my P!nk lovin’ bff who adores this rocker style!

I photographed this card at an odd angle so I could show you how the black cherry paper is embossed in a shiny finish. Isn’t that cool?

I’ve been working on a couple of projects so I hope to have something new to show you soon.
