Birthday Fun

Hello stampers!!

Last week was my first born’s 11th birthday. I whipped up this card for him.

I realized that trying to make cards for 11 year old boys is not so easy.

It’s already hard enough to do masculine cards.

Throw in kids who want to be older and cool and it’s darn near impossible.

I did a lot of normal ink to paper stamping on this card! I embossed everything except the green balloon.

I used Wild Wasabi, Brilliant Blue (craft ink), and Real Red (craft ink) from SU!

I used Birthday Whimsy for my images (SU!).

I used Vintage Sepia from Versafine and Jet Black Stazon.

The paper is BoBunny from the Calpso and Double Dot collections.

I drew the balloon strings with my Multiliner.

Enjoy!

True Blood Challenge #5: Fangtasia vs. Merlottes!

Hey stampers! I want to start out today’s post and apologize for skipping last week’s True Blood Challenge.

I had a little domestic accident…well my daughter did. And it kept me from completing my project…   Not cool.

So despite now having step throat, I knew I had to man up for this week’s challenge!! So let the games begin!

The True Blood Challenge

This week, we’re doing TBC#5: Fangtasia vs. Merlottes. True Blood features two hangouts: Fangtasia and Merlottes.

Which place would be your hangout spot? Create a project celebrating your pick.

Well, this is a tough one. Ask me one day and I’ll tell you I’d rather hang out at Merlottes.

Ask me another…Fangtasia is my pick. Today, it’s Fangtasia!

Here is the card I made to show my Fangtasia love! I didn’t have a Fangtasia image so I improvised.

I used the Otherworldly Loves StampInsanity Stamp set to make a special shout to all fangbangers who are lovin’ Eric at Fangtasia!

I was inspired by Becky at Inking Idaho for this card. I love how she used the lily image from this SU! set! I knew I wanted to do something similar.

I added Crystal Effects on all the flowers and the fangs image. This is one glossy image!

I embossed the stamped images (except the lilies) and used Copics to color all the images.

I used R20 and R24 for the tongue. I used R24, R27, and R29 for the flowers.

I outlined the Fangbanger senti with a silver Spica.

I used the pitch black Spica for the flower middles (What do you call those things? My kids are asleep so I don’t know! lol).

I’ve been itching to use this image since it released in early February! I first saw these adorable images from Pixie Dust Studios and I immediately thought of Precious Moments.

Since then, I’ve been dying to use Zeeba from the Wild Flower set. Back when I was pregnant for the first time, Beth and I would spend our lunch breaks at a local bookstore where they sold Precious Moments beanie-type animals. Yes, way back then when Beanie Babies were so popular! Here’s what they looked like:

(Image borrowed from Dirty Butter Plush Animal Shoppe)

Do you remember that, Beth? We’d go all the time and I always bought these animals for my nursery. I didn’t know if I was having a boy or girl and it was so much fun. The whole nursery was done in Precious Moment’s Noah’s Ark and I had a ton of these animals!!! I used the same nursery set when my daughter was born too. I still have all the animals. I dug out these two pictures:

Daniel---Head-in-Corner

This is my son in his nursery in 1999. We did the walls in green and blue with yellow trim and blue blinds! See the animal in the bed?

julie And this is my daughter in 2002. It shows a better picture of the PM Noah’s Ark images. Ok, so you get the idea? I really liken the Pixie Dust Studios images with all this so I had to have them! Let’s look at the card I made.

I used soft colors for my card. I chose Almost Amethyst and Blush Blossom from SU!

And I added an SU rub on to the retired Certainly Celery ribbon. Now I’ve got to get this card off in the mail!!!

Ok, my time-space continuum is really, really messed up. For some reason, my neural pathways seem to be misfiring in all kinds of manner. See, this is my attempt to use big words to try and prove that I’m not a total mental case…

For some reason, I seem to be thinking it is two days at one time. On one level, I realize it’s Wednesday. But on another, I think it’s Thursday. More specifically, I think all craft project related items are the day ahead. Sooooooo…

I accidentally posted tomorrow’s post today. I thought it was Thursday. Thursday craft stuff apparently equals Wednesday life stuff. Go figure. Hiro, I need some help. Where is that stupid Dial-a-Hero hotline when you need it? That’s a little Heroes humor for those who don’t watch the show.

My apologies to everyone for the little sneak peak you got. To fully shame myself, I’m going to dig really deep into my picture archives and find a card I made when I was a beginning stamper…

Remember stampers, this was before we had “designer” paper.

These were done circa 2004. This stressed little cat exemplifies me to the maximum today…

And this was one of the first Make and Takes I ever went to. This is still my all time favorite set! Again, circa 2004.

Can I Do Goth?

That is the question I asked myself when I looked around my stamp stash to try and find the perfect stamp for my wonderful friend, Alison. It’s Alison’s birthday next week and I wanted a perfect card that is as cool as she is. Seriously, Alison is like…super cool…and, well I…am not.

Soooo, I found this image I have from The Greeting Farm, and thought maybe I could make her a little gothic. Now, Alison has told me how teal is her favorite color to put in her hair so I knew my goth girl had to have teal in her hair too! That was a little harder than I expected…but overall, I loved the card.

If you look closely, you’ll see I added an eyebrow piercing to my girl! I used a lot of Spicas on this!!! I colored her in Copics but I didn’t write down the colors! It was last year before my New Year’s resolution to do better! I used Bermuda Bay from Stampin’ Up! and Raven from Bazzill for my card. Both are textured and that’s just how I like it! I also used PTI white. I made a frame with this card so that is a little different than normal layering.

The “Superstar” sentiment is from Verve’s Starstruck set and I just absolutely adore that set. The same set is used for the interior of the card.

I see Ali as a star. And she is. She is full of life and energy…totally admirable. She’s one amazing chick and I’m glad to call her my friend. So happy birthday, Ali!!!

Beate’s Weekend Sketch Challenge #105

Beate revealed a fabulous Weekend Sketch Challenge (#105) today and I just had to do it immediately! I have a couple of other cards I want to make with this sketch too!

I used BoBunny ‘Tis the Season and St. Nick designer paper for this card.  I just love this St. Nick line. It’s so traditional and the epitome of “Christmas”. I also used Bazzill Emerald City Bling for the layering. The bling is from Close to My Heart. The image and ribbon is from Stampin’ Up!.

If you play along with Beate’s challenge this week, be sure to let me know so I can visit you!

CASE of Donna – One of my stamping heroes!

Donna is an absolute stamping inspiration. She creates with the highest quality—has a real eye for design. She is a stamper who inspires me to push my own abilities and grow. She is also an incredible person and friend to all. I am so proud to call her my friend. And I’m incredibly blessed when she sends me her creations!

She was kind enough to send me one of her most prized cards and I highly value that gesture. In fact, I want to honor Donna by doing a CASE of her creation, so here it is!

You can see Donna’s original here. It is absolutely stunning and she actually won that Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge!! I’m so proud of her!!!

I am using The Pink Elephant Challenge #39 for this card. It’s a color challenge using the colors brown, yellow, neutral and a color of your choice.

I used BoBunny ‘Tis the Season designer paper. Who knew you could use a Christmas paper for something other than Christmas!! I also used Sunflower and Island Mist Double Dot paper and a brown Bazzill base (I don’t remember which color!).

The images and ribbon are Stampin’ Up! I stamped the front in Versamark Onyx ink and embossed (ala Donna again!) with clear powder. I stamped the interior with Jet Black Stazon.

Thank you again, Donna, for the card and for the endless inspiration you provide!
